Free-Roaming Andean Alpacas

Alpacas roam freely in their natural habitat in the highlands of Peru. Their farmers never harm or kill them for their wool. Alpacas create small footprints that do not damage the fields they graze on. When they eat, they cut the grass, promoting regrowth.

SINGLE ORIGIN SUPPLY CHAIN

Where Was This Base Layer Made?

We use natural local resources and a short transparent supply chain. Our mission is to teach you as much as possible about how clothes should be made. Together we can move the fashion industry towards a sustainable future.

Designed & Made in One Country: Peru

Contrary to industry norms, every step involved in making our clothes is done in only one country: Peru, the home of our family. Our production in Peru includes fiber sourcing, yarn spinning, fabric knitting, dyeing, finishing, and garment sewing.

From Peru, our clothes go straight to California or Europe on its journey to you.

Low Carbon Footprint

Manufacturing in one country allows us to greatly reduce our carbon footprint and freight shipping. This is a major step on our journey to becoming a carbon negative company.

Transparency & Traceability

We avoid industrial farming by working with co-op farmers in the Andes. Doing everything in Peru guarantees we know how the alpacas and the workers involved are being treated.

My order never left the warehouse

Absolutely disgraceful, I contacted you twice and both times you said package will be sent and never was, for 2 weeks. And on top of that when I contacted you for a refund no one answers me for 3 days now.

Men's Alpaca Wool Base Layer: 300 Lightweight Half-Zip

Beautiful garment. Loved the fit (L). Well tailored and warm. Missing a star as I found it itchy against the skin. Not too much of n issue for me, as I don't wear as a base layer, but would find it uncomfortable if I did. If Arms of Andes addresses this one concern, I'll happily order another-

Great quality, soft and odorless

It's quickly become my favorite piece of clothing. Even wearing this without an additional layer has proven quite effective in some of the warmer winter days, but as a base layer it's been a really effective workhorse. Great quality, very soft, and as best I can tell all that's advertised about odor resistance is definitely true.

Important (?) Note: The first time I wore this it felt fairly itchy. They advertise as itch free so I was concerned, as I've heard some people have bad reactions to 100% wool. However, it seems it was just a "new garment" problem. After wearing it out on a run, whatever itch I felt went away completely and now only the softness remains. I haven't read anyone else mention anything like it, but if you've never worn 100% wool before I figured I'd share my experience with it. I'm really glad I forced myself to give it a try.

luxurious

This is a handsome, warm, and luxurious top. Besides the expected property of alpaca, I am impressed with how comfortable and lush the top feels. The neck is a close fit, no gaps - at least for my neck size - which makes it comfortable and warm. Although not recommended by Arms of Andes, I laundered mine in warm water and tumble dry low. - no problem. no shrinkage, no bleeding of color. Laundered twice so far and it fits and feels the same as new.
